A billionaire philanthropist offers to massively fund the Titans as a scheme to avoid paying taxes and to generate good PR. Dick is NOT having it and is the only member of the Titans who's immediate willing to reject the offer and leave. He's not going to allow a greedy, ego-manic billionaire to privatise the Titans, and potentially use them for his own profiteering means or prevent the Titans from holding him and his company accountable for their actions.
That's spot on characterisation if you ask me. Dick had a working class background. He's a man of the people (typically the only human on the Titans even). He's a bit of a friendly neighbourhood superhero as opposed to a larger than life one. He was beating up neo-nazis under Dixon. He foiled a eugenics plot under Tomasi. He helped two young assassins become heroes instead of imprisoning them, under Grayson and Morrison. He was reckoning with history under a Marx-inspired-Morrison. And he was locking horns with Gotham's elites under Snyder. He's not as outspoken as Green Arrow but Dick's always been a bit of a radical at his core and that's part of his appeal.
Meanwhile, Tom Taylor is using Nightwing to write a heavy-handed, "good billionaire", pro-philanthropy white guilt piece which actually validates the behaviours of the billionaire scum that Nightwing is at odds with in the above panels. That does not sit right with me.
Source: Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #1. I squished all the important panels together.
Dick Grayson is one of my favorite DC characters but it doesn't stop me from occasionally re-reading Detective Comics #700 and laughing at him getting wrecked throughout the entire issue.
It shouldn't be as funny as it is but it's also amusing to me since it's interspersed with scenes of Tim being concerned for him while Bruce is like "he's fine he can take care of himself.
Yet meanwhile the dude looks like this
Like this issue should not be as humorous to me as it is and yet
